Additionally, the Safe and Drug Free Schools Office oversees the districts School Resource Officer Program. The SRO program is a collaborative effort between the Sumner County Sheriffs Department and Sumner County schools. A Sheriffs deputy is assigned to all seven high schools under the supervision of Captain Dwayne Wright.

The Title IV, Safe & Drug Free Schools Program is currently in the process of filing its yearly application request for available funds for Summer County.  Comments and suggestions from parents and community members on effective programs for implementation with these funds are welcome.  Additionally, SDFS program evaluation results, including results of the annual student alcohol and drug survey, are public domain and available by contacting Pat Conner at 451-6500 or at pat.conner@sumnerschools.org.

The Safe & Drug Free Schools department is pleased to announce the availability of a new program for parents of high school students that focuses on alcohol education. AlcoholEdu for High School is a web-based prevention program that engages high school students with research-based alcohol education. AlcoholEdu for High School helps students contend with a culture that too often encourages, rather than discourages, underage drinking.

Parents are encouraged to participate in the program by following this link to take the course: http://highschool.alcoholedu.com/login.asp. The login ID is: 8HH36552PARENTS

Once parents complete the course we strongly suggest that you talk with your child about what you have learned about the dangers of alcohol use by young people.
